Film Openings

Order Of a Conventional Film Opening

Film openings tend to go in order of a hierarchy of who is most important/who gets most money out of the movie to the not so important people in the middle, then finally building back up the hierarchy scale technically in other words; completing the circuit.

  • It usually begins with the production and distribution company. The ident/logo for the companies are also shown just to further establish who they are. This could also be used as an indication for what the genre of movie would be. e.g. if the Disney Pixar logo was to be shown at the start of the movie then the audience would usually be able to tell that it would be a family/children's film.
  • We then usually get the name of the movie after this.
  • After this we get the very important A-list stars in the movie. This is to boost the image of the film and to draw in a bigger audience in to the movie. This is because the A-list celeb's would have a big fan base that would watch the movie just because they are in it.
  • We then usually get the writers of the movie. It usually says 'a screenplay by...'
  • This is then followed by the extra casting people such as who the set director was, who did the cinematography, who the set decorator was and who the unit manager was.
  • We then start going back up the hierarchy scale by this point by seeing who the music was done by.
  • Finally this is followed more importantly by who the director of the movie was.
